Should we eat pomelos after drinking alcohol?

I often eat pomelos after drinking alcohol because I think this fruit is rich in water and vitamin C, which can help relieve alcohol’s effects. Is it true? (Tien, 40, Hanoi)

Pomelos can bring many health benefits such as relieving coughs, treating an eating disorder, and preventing car sick. It has many vitamins and minerals that are good for the health.

However, it does not help relieve alcohol’s effects. In fact, the furanocoumarin compound found in this fruit leverages the impacts of ethanol in alcohol, which is bad for health. It is recommended to only consume pomelos at least 48 hours after alcohol consumption.

Though pomelos are generally good for those with diabetes, it is suggested to consult with your doctor about your pomelo consumption if you are under other disease treatments in order to avoid unwanted side effects.
